Allowances and balances, explained

Total, taken, pending, remaining — plus carried-over days spent first, pro-rata first years and country extras like ROL and RTT.

For everyone Updated July 25, 2026

Your allowance is the budget behind every booking. This guide explains the four numbers that describe it, where carried-over days fit, and the extra balances some countries add — so the math on your booking form never surprises you.

The four numbers

Number Meaning
Total Your days for the leave year — set by your admins, including any days carried over from last year
Taken Approved bookings that deduct from the allowance
Pending Requested but not yet decided — reserved so you can't overspend by accident
Remaining Total − taken − pending: what you can still book

You see them on your home page (the big number is remaining) and a compact version in the avatar menu, from any page.

Only some types spend it

Each leave type either deducts from the allowance (Holiday, typically) or doesn't (sickness, remote work…). Non-deducting types can still have their own per-type yearly counters — you'll see them under the main number when your admins have set any. Blank counter = unlimited.

Carried-over days

If your organization allows carry forward, unused days travel into the new year and are folded into your total automatically. Two rules worth knowing:

  • Carried days are spent first — your bookings consume last year's leftovers before this year's days.
  • They may expire (after 1–12 months, your admins decide): what's still unspent at the deadline disappears from the total. Book early in the year if you're sitting on carried days.

Your first year

Joined mid-year? Your first-year allowance is pro-rata from your start date: starting July 1st with a 24-day policy gives you about 12. From your first full year, you get the full amount.

Country extras

Some countries track more than one budget, and Bueggio HR follows suit: ROL and ex-festività hours in Italy, RTT days in France, libre disposición in Spain. These extra balances are consumed by the leave types your admins mapped to them, and you can check them any time with /bueggio balance in Slack or by asking a connected AI assistant.

Booking over the allowance

The form warns you and asks to confirm; the request goes to your approver flagged. Whether it's granted is a human decision — the system informs, people decide.

Something looks wrong?

  • Check pending first — a forgotten request reserves days until it's decided or cancelled.
  • Remember public holidays and weekends never consume days (how days are counted).
  • Still off? Your admins set your total in Settings → Team — they can see the same numbers in Reports and adjust.
